We, the master and the seven novices, started our journey to Bihar on 24th March evening and reached there on 26th evening. Fr. Andrews, Fr Balashowry and Br. Basil cordially welcomed us. We spent the next two days visiting various parishes and tourist places like Rajagiri and Bodhigaya.
On the evening of the Palm Sunday we were divided into three groups and were sent to three villages to ‘experience’ the life of the rural Bihar. It was really a fruitful and enriching experience because we were working with the people in the fields, painting the village chapel, hair dressing, gathering the youth and children to teach English and Hindi, conducting various games and animating them for the evening prayers in the mandirs. We also taught them handicrafts. We were also visiting the houses, praying for the sick and other intentions of the families. During the Holy Week, we also animated the village youth for the dramatic presentation of the Gospel and also the technical presentation of the resurrection of Christ. The people were so cordial and welcoming. They were treating us as their own children especially when some of us were sick. They were providing us the best things they could, out of their limited resources. They have high respect for the priests and brothers, different from the people of Kerala. In the social level, they are backward in the sense that there are still child marriages and even some families don’t take care of the education of their children. But they are very hardworking and they consider their work as a worship. In the faith level, they are very simple without much contradictions and controversies. For this little experience, we feel ineffable joy and we would like to thank our Provincial Fr. Mariolino for granting permission for this trip. We also thank Fr. Giampiero for helping us to raise some fund through handicrafts and games and Fr. James Amalraj for his valuable support and prayers. We also remember with gratitude Fr. Andrews Raja (Barh Parish priest), Fr. Jayapalan (Asst. parish priest), Fr. Balashowry, Bro. Basil, Bro. Sanoj, the Sisters and the Barh people for their hospitality and concern. We also remember with love the benefactors who contributed wholeheartedly for this small mission journey. above all, we thank the Almighty God for protecting us on our journey.
