Perpetual Profession and Priestly Ordination at Santa María de La Sierra: The Murialdian Mission is Renewed in the Heart of Medellín

MEDELLÍN (COLOMBIA) – These have been days of great celebration and profound symbolic significance for the Congregation of St. Joseph and for the entire Murialdo Family. At the Santa María de La Sierra Parish in Medellín, two key events in the life of our religious family took place: - On Friday, September 25, 2026, Brother  Cheismir Mosquera Mena, C.S.J., made his Perpetual Profession, taking the vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience; - the following day, Saturday, September 26, Deacon  Sergio Suárez Mejía, C.S.J., was ordained a priest by Monsignor Carlos Alberto Correa Martínez, a native of Medellín and the current bishop of Apartadó. The decision to celebrate the perpetual vows and priestly ordination in this particular parish represents a strong reminder of the founding charism of St. Leonardo Murialdo. The community of Santa María de La Sierra, located in Comuna 8 (Villa Hermosa) in Medellín, is in fact the center of an intense pastoral and social ministry launched by the Josephites in 2001. Born in a historically complex context marked by urban conflicts, the Murialdo community’s presence in the neighborhood has solidified over the years as a bastion of education, support for vulnerable families, the promotion of peace, and the rebuilding of the social fabric. The decision of the two religious brothers to commit their vows and ministry to this area bears witness to their desire to embody the mission among young people and the most marginalized in the suburbs.
